A New Blog!

Hey there everyone, I am posting this as a notification that I will soon be transitioning to my new blog CW-Visions.  Here I will also open up to include more of my lighting design work, as well as some of my photographs from walks around NYC.

Dance Headshots

Last weekend I was asked If I would shoot the poster for these dancer’s upcoming BFA project.  I was more than thrilled to take part in this shoot, especially to help build my experience in working with a group of people.  We were able to get into an empty NY apartment in the Upper West Side, complete with clean white walls!  Here is some of what I came out with!

Winter Break in the Chilly Midwest

Winter Break is over already??  Wow.. well hello last semester of college.  Hard to believe, it feels like yesterday I was freaking out about leaving the life I knew here in Kansas.  Well, as I knew the break was coming to a close, I wanted to give people a taste of the frigid weather that has been ravaging these flat plains, but at the same time, show the beauty that can come through it all.

As the semester draws to a close…

Wow, its really hard to believe that the Fall semester of my Senior Year is finished.  And then only 15 more weeks to go.. phew.. what a 15 weeks it will be.  There is plenty to look forward to next semester, with just a few classes to close out my senior year and many dance projects to design, and hopefully more Purchase Repertory shows to photograph.  I surprised myself and was actually quite ahead of my end of semester work, so much that I was able to fit in a trip to the city before I left to head home for the break.

While I was wandering throughout the Holiday rush of tourists, I decided to take a moment to capture a bit of the Christmas decoration.  Here is what I saw.

Two Gents Rehearsal

Wow, its been a while since my last entry!  So I’ll just jump into to my latest opportunity.  The PSM of our next Purchase Repertory Theatre show, Two Gentlemen of Verona asked me to stop by rehearsal the other day to capture some of the rehearsal process.  This was a great opportunity and a new one at that.  I’m only used to photographing the actors on stage and under lights, so this was great seeing the actor at work, mingling with the director, and really enjoying getting into and building their character.

Here is what I was able to capture.

Off the Wall: A Michael Jackson Tribute

Off the Wall: A Michael Jackson Tribute was the first design of my residency in the DTL this year.  This show benefited the Seniors and their BFA Projects for this coming year.  It was an exciting opportunity for me to evoke the emotion carried throughout Michael Jackson’s music.

Photos from the city..

Here is a shot from my trip into the city this past Friday.  I am always moved at how gorgeous the sunsets in NYC are and will continue to be amazed.

Sunset in Transit

Another sunset in NYC. This time I was on the 7 train headed back into Manhattan. I was bummed that I was not able to actually stop and take a moment to capture the shot. But in thinking about it, there is something about it that captures a bit of the essence of New York City. Where one just catches glimpses of life happening everyday. So I felt great to have the chance to capture this sunset not long before I travelled underground to enter Manhattan.

Back to NY

Well after 4 months in the beautiful Berkshire mountains I’ve returned back to Purchase for one final year of school.  Its hard to believe that three years ago I was just a freshman about to embark on this long journey through college.  Then innocent to many things in life as a freshman, by Senior year much has changed.  I’ve had numerous new experiences with many people of different ages and personalities, each having some small influence on my life.  When I think back though, I wish I had taken advantage more of my close proximity to NYC.  I wish I had gotten to know the city better.

I arrived back at school Thursday after quite a hectic and emotionally charged afternoon/evening.  With the added stress of getting moved back in, and catching up on school work I decided to take advantage of the long weekend and slipped down to NYC for a mental vacation.  I spent time with a friend who had just recently graduated and is currently living in Queens, NY.  It was nice to have a discussion about life after college, and the perks and hardships that come with trying to survive in such a large city.  The next day I was planning to have a dinner with a friend who had just moved into her new apartment in Brooklyn.  I haven’t spent much time there, so I decided to venture over early and explore my friend’s new neighborhood.  I was significantly out of my comfort zone while wandering around Brooklyn Sunday evening.  But it was just far enough that I was enjoying the excitement and still had some tiny reassurance that I was safe.

I of course had my camera along with me and was able to capture some unique NY moments as well as a NYC sunset, which I always enjoy.

Another Day off and Getting Lost..

Today was one of our more relaxing days of the summer.  I still had Karli’s camera so I brought it along with us and shot a bit.  Even though its the model older than mine I’m wishing a little that I had it.

A Summer of New Doors and Opportunities

Hello world. Welcome to my photo blog.

I started this blog to open up another avenue for sharing my work as a photographer with my friends, family and colleagues.

Some brief background of myself. I’ve been shooting for about one year and my primary focus has been in theatrical photography including but not limited to dance and stage plays. I am anticipating my graduation from Purchase College this spring with a BFA in Theatre Design & Technology empasis in Lighting Design. I feel that the education and experience I have gained in the last three years has given me a unique eye when it comes to photographing for the stage. I am able to anticipate poignant moments in the stage play as well as when the dancer is just about to make a spectacular leap.

This all being said I hope you enjoy the work that you will soon see popping up. I will also include posts of shots from my own wanderings. You never know when a shot will present itself. It could be a once in a lifetime photo, and a memory captured forever.
